1.Patricia L. Price. Place. 119-129. Print.
In this article, Price talks about place in many ways, like “the Intimacy of Place”, “Crafting Place” and “Rethinking Place”. He states that emotional component plays a very important role in both place and space. In the “Crafting Place” part, Price talks about home. He describes home as the site of our most intimate of relationships with place, as well as one of the first that we experience. I chose this article because the author states his ideas with a lot of good citations and the article is quite well written. I plan to use it to illustrate my point about how home is related to us and about its role in our life.
2.Yi-Fu Tuan. “The Perspective of Experience.” Space and Place. 3-18. Print.
In this article, the first chapter gives a brief introduction to the whole book and also lists the several questions that he is going to talk about in the book. The second chapter talks about space and place from experiential perspective. Tuan believes that only with human experience can a place be given values. I chose it, because this article is quite detailed and well structured. Moreover, t provides me with a new way to think about place. After reading it, I began to find out that there is emotional emotion and personal experience put on a place.
3.Jhumpa Lahiri. “Where Are You From? Notions of Identity &Place.” Rhode Island. 101-113. Print.
In this article, Lahiri talks about how she sees Rhodes Island as hometown even though she was not born there. All the experiences she had on the island made she so attached to the land. The article also talks about how Lahiri’s parents see the island. I chose the article, because I really resonate with something described in the article myself. What is more, this article can really help me to define what the exact definition of home is.
4. Yi-Fu Tuan. “The Perspective of Experience.” Space and Place. 136-148. Print.
In this article, Tuan talks about that people would have intimate and nurturing experiences over some places. Home is one place that has these kinds of experiences in it. The author holds the opinion that places like home can protect people from hurt and make people more aware of the sense of belonging. I find the article interesting and quite agree with the points illustrated in the article. I want to use it for explaining the role home plays in people’s life and how home has influences on people self-development.
5. J.A. Adande. "No Place like Home for LeBron James." ESPN. ESPN Internet Ventures, n.d. Web. 19 Sept. 2014.
This article talks about Lebron’s return back to Cleveland from Miami after he made the famous decision in 2010. The author sees this issue from the perspective of home. He talks about a lot on the emotional component behind Lebron’s decision back to Cleveland.
Even though it is a sports article, I think it delves quite deeply in what we talk about these days about Place. What is more, it perfectly fits to my topic about home and I will use it to discuss what home means to all of us and the sense of belonging that home can bring to us.
